Experience
A visit to the Sigmund Thun Klamm takes about 10 to 20 minutes. This is kind of short, but it is enough to experience the tranquility of the water flowing and making its way through the gorge. While you stare at the waterfalls with your arms hanging over the balustrade, a feeling of peace comes over you.
You climb the stairs in the same rhythm as the flowing water. If it is raining, the water will not only be to the right of you but also come from above. Your gaze follows the intriguing forms of the rocks and lands at the bottom of the pool below you.
Nature doesn’t need much to be impressive.
Is a visit to the gorge worth it?
If you are nearby, definitely yes. It is a good counter experience to being up on the mountain in the snow. I wouldn’t drive an hour for this gorge though. If you are coming from far away, then the bigger Liechtenstein Klamm might be a better option. What the Sigmund Thun Klamm does have is a certain intimacy because the gorge is narrower.
A visit to the gorge is also worth it in the rain: this will increase the power of the water flow and show the force of nature.
I would skip the gorge if it is too crowded. Too many people will distract you from blending into the scenery and taking the time to gaze at the beauty of your surroundings.
How to get to the Sigmund Thun Klamm?
The Sigmund Thun Klamm is situated five minutes south of Kaprun. From Zell am See, you can get to the gorge in fifteen minutes. You can park your car at the entrance or at one of the bigger parking lots further south.

Opening hours and tickets
The gorge is closed in winter. In 2021, it will probably reopen on May 7th. Tickets are 6 EUR for adults or 3.90 EUR for kids between 6 – 15. Guest card and family discounts are available.
