Yoko Ogawa - De geheugenpolitie
Op een eiland verdwijnt op mysterieuze wijze steeds meer: hoeden, vogels, boeken, rozen… En de verdwijningen blijven serieuzere proporties aannemen. Telkens wordt het straatbeeld weer wat leger en vertoont het geheugen van de inwoners grotere gaten. De enkelen die blijven herinneren, vrezen voor hun leven. Ze zijn bang voor de draconische geheugenpolitie die de taak heeft over deze collectieve vergetelheid te waken en te zorgen dat wat verdwenen is, vergeten blijft. Hanya Yanagihara - Notities uit de jungle
In 1950 vindt Norton Perina tijdens een antropologische expeditie naar een afgelegen eiland in Micronesië de verloren gewaande primitieve stam waarnaar hij op zoek was. Bovendien ontdekt hij er in de buurt een groep mensen die in bomen wonen. Ze blijken van een ongelooflijke ouderdom te zijn en in toenemende mate seniel.
