In reply to <a href="https://wheretokim.com/visit-vlaardingen-netherlands/#comment-2468">Hendrik Van Roon</a>.

Hi Hendrik,

Such a small world! :) Your family history will sound familiar to many people who live(d) in Vlaardingen. The prominence of Vlaardingen's fishing industry is a thing of the past, but the historical buildings and museum exhibitions serve as a great reminder. I'll pay extra attention to the pictures and books the next time I visit the museum.

Kind regards,
Kim

I miss it, I was born in Vlaardingen in 1968, and moved to Ireland in 1979, unfortunately I don't speak Dutch anymore, I still look at the house we're we lived and the school next door on Google maps, I always think what would I have been, done for a living if I stayed in Holland, my father spent his whole life working at sea, I suppose I would have followed him, in the fishing museum in Vlaardingen there are references, pictures and books my grandad wrote about the fisheries, he was a captain of a fishing boat, I will go back some time for a visit and reminisce. I wish we could go back in time... 😞
